One Year Wedding Anniversary: Crested Butte
A Ceremonial Completion of Year One
On the Thursday night before our first wedding anniversary, Jay and I drove out to Bueno Vista, Colorado. We caught some beautiful sunset light while driving down 285, and didn't get to the BLM site until well after dark.
We realized our Subaru Impreza didn't stand a chance against the rocky terrain that led up to where we wanted to camp, and instead of pitching our tent on top of a hill in Black Canyon National Park, we ended up in a cove towards the base. We were surrounded by hills and valleys, but couldn't really see the extent of it in the moon light. I took a few photos that night which embody exactly what the site appeared to be: dense, dark space. We fell asleep as the fog rolled in over the Collegiate Peaks.
I woke up to the heat of our tent and got to see what our campsite truly looked like. I took photos while Jay continued to sleep.

Nearly 2,000 people settled in this town when mining for gold and silver started. The mining industry started to decline in the early 1920s, and in 1922 the railroad discontinued service. The community is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the St. Elmo Historic District. It is one of Colorado’s best preserved ghost towns.”
